Sundara Raman RIP
This blog is created for all the Officer Cadets who entered NDA in January 1961 and passed out in December 1963. It includes all those who joined Army, Navy and Air Force and even those who unluckily could not make it to the three services. Efforts have been made to include relevant details and photographs which may be of interest to all visitors. I very much appreciate the kind contributions and full co-operation extended by all my colleagues in compiling this popular Blog.
An Introduction to 25th NDA Course
A total of 226 young boys in the age group of 16-18 years from all walks of life and from various corners and locations of India, formed into 25th NDA Course, entered the National Defence Academy on 6 January 1961. They all aspired to become officers in the three services of the Armed forces, ie Army, Navy and Air Force after undergoing a tough and gruelling basic inter services training for a period of three years divided in six terms. The un-organised and raw young matriculate boys, were christened as Cadets till they remained in the National Defence Academy. These cadets were almost equally distributed to the three Battalions and ten existing Squadrons, which later on increased to thirteen by the time they completed their prescribed training of three years/six terms and passed out of the National Defence Academy, to join their respective training establishments for being finally commissioned as officers in the Army, Navy and Air Force.
The 25th NDA Course during the period of three years lost a number of cadets and received many cadets as a result of relegations on various grounds. The course finally passed out of the National Defence Academy on 6 December 1963.
The 25th NDA Course had the distinction of giving a Chief of Army Staff ie General Joginder Jaswant Singh (popularly known as JJ Singh) to the Indian Army. General JJ Singh later had the distinction of being appointed as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. The 25th NDA Course also had the distinction of giving several senior rank officers to the three services. The officers of 25th NDA Course have seen three Indo-Pak Wars of 1965, 1971 & 1999. They all displayed a high sense of inter services comradeship and mutual co-operation for ensuring the territorial integrity of India. There were a large number of officers of the 25th NDA Course who gave their life in the service of the Nation in these wars and a good number of them displayed outstanding and conspicuous bravery to win gallantry awards.
The 25th NDA Course has overall been an outstanding course in all respects.
